After spending the night with a good friend in Colorado Springs, we determined which route was best. Denver had had a 9 car pile up the night before, and the morning's traffic report figured about a 2 hour delay. We decided to drive up through Aspen, "where the beer flows like wine, and the women instinctively flock like the salmon of Capistrano".... Packed up the car, and headed out through the beautiful mountain scenery. As we got closer to our turn off to head up to Aspen, the signs read "Pass Closed"! We continued on the highway we were on, climbing up into the snow-capped peaks....
Driving right into a blizzard! I was getting very nervous. The thoughts of the Donner party and the book "Alive" were flashing through my mind.
We had missed snow being in Oklahoma, but I was longing for the boring, flat, and warm weather of the day before. Needless to say, we found our way through the mountains and snow, only about an hour added onto our drive. After making our way through Colorado, we came into Southern Utah (around the Moab area). How much a difference a few hours and a couple hundred miles makes!
I love Southern Utah, the orange rock against the green trees. So awesome! But, we finally arrived in Provo, at my home, safe and sound. We even had enough time at the end of the day to celebrate Todd's birthday! Happy Birthday old man!
