Very informative video

This video was taken by Brenna, during one of my piano lessons. Here are some tidbits you will gain from watching this video:

  1. During piano lessons, my kids rule my house. And the devastation afterwards takes typically 30 minutes to clean up.
  2. Cannon has learned to push our kitchen chairs up to the kitchen counter, and not only reach our breakabale dishes (cupboard above) but the paper towels.
  3. Brenna has learned how to film a video on our camera. I don't remember specifically teaching her that, but she picked it up somehow!
  4. Cannon LOVES shreading anything. Toilet paper, paper towels, Brenna's art projects, my scriptues...ANYTHING that he can get his dirty little hands on.
  5. Brenna knows the tune and words to Beyonce's "All the Single Ladies".
  6. Cannon knows the "Wah-Oh-Oh" section of the chorus to "All the Single Ladies". Maybe I should teach him the dance moves as well.
  7. And lastly, I am oblivious to all of this while I am teaching piano. And typically don't find out about it till I am uploading videos to my computer!

Yes, this is a glimpse into my everyday life. And I love every bit of it...maybe I could do without the shreading.

Leaky Faucet

My nose.

I hate my nose.

And my eyes.

And now my ears.

I hate "not-pregnancy-safe" allergy pills.

My nose is constantly running. Not just out the nostrils, but down the back of my throat.

Sleeping has been difficult. It is hard to sleep through cold liquid running from your nose down your face, towards your pillow.

My nose is a leaky faucet.

Our master bathroom also had a leaky faucet. It is a slow, but consistent drip. Late Friday night, after a loooonnnggg and very busy day, I was finishing up final touches on projects for the Primary Activity the following morning. Ryan, aka "Mr. Fix-It" decided to tackle this leaky faucet. With his handy-dandy wrench and tools, he twisted and turned knobs and valves, until finally....

There was "Old Faithful" in the middle of our bathroom. One of the handles had broken off, and was now spraying water everywhere. I rushed almost a dozen towels to the bathroom, tried to dam the doorway, so the now rushing water would spare our carpets. Ryan raced outside (without his flashlight or wrench, which meant he had to run back inside for his tools) to turn off the water to our house. I tried to slow down this firehose pressure, which was in vain. Finally the water stopped, but now my entire bathroom was soaked, and I was standing in about an inch and a half of water on our floor. Needless to say, after a dozen drenched towels, evacuating all our toiletries from a flooded cabinet beneath, wiping down everything in the bathroom, a trip to Wal-Mart to buy a new seal for the handle, and a new warm and dry change of clothes...

We slipped into bed around 2am, where my other faucet started to drip. My nose. I don't know which is more irritating.

(Side note: This was written several weeks ago, and I am just now uploading pictures to our computer! Slacker.)

Sweet Smell of Sweat

Cannon could spend all of his time in our backyard. Cold or hot. Rainy or sunny. He loves being outdoors. So does Brenna. But their time is spent very differently. Brenna will pick "flowers" (really weeds) or make "grass salads". She might get a few specks of dirt on her hands, only transferred from the microscopic amounts on the plant life.
Cannon on the other hand, attracts dirt. He immediately finds the muddiest part of our yard, and digs in with his hands, feet and mouth (yes, mouth!) as his gardening tools. I've wondered if he is mineral deprived, because he enjoys sampling our dirt. And not only does he attract dirt, he omits the sweetest smelling sweat! I love waking him up from naps, because like his dad, he sweats buckets when he sleeps. But in polar opposition to his dad, Cannon's sweat smells yummy to me! And when he spends countless time outdoors, he comes inside sticky with sweat. I've already decided during the summer we will most likely have to do a pre-nap hose down outside, and a pre-bed time bath. Possibly more imbetween! But this is one thing I am loving about having a little boy.

It's a...

BEAUTIFUL...
BABY...
GIRL!!!

Brenna was right from day one! (Did we every really doubt her?) And Ryan's sister Heather's voodoo ring magic was also right. The specialist said that everything looks perfect! Her official due date is August 12th, which my doctor schedules c-sections at least a week early. So probably sometime in the first week of August. And I think we are pretty settled on the name Brooklynn Rachel Bushman. So congrats to 5 of the 9 who said girl!

Boy or Girl?

Wednesday is the appointment. Are we having a boy or a girl? Ryan's sister did her voodoo ring trick, which gave us one answer. Brenna, who was right guessing Cannon was a boy, has her opinion. And I have mine, comparing a girl pregnancy with a boy pregnancy. But the official word will be spoken Wednesday morning.
What is your guess?
And names....that is a whole other topic. We have a girls name pretty much decided on, but are not in consensus for boys names. Any suggestions?

Happy Birthday Hubby!

Today is Ryan's 29th birthday! And he is spending the evening with the Cub Scouts, poor boy! He is absolutely my best friend, who makes me laugh especially when I don't want to. He is the perfect complement to me in everyway. He's tall, I'm short. He's funny, I'm more serious. He's laid back, I'm uptight. He's physically coordinated, I'm musically gifted. He's street smart, I'm book smart. He's always wrong, and I'm always right. We're perfect for each other! And for the past 7 years we have celebrated his birthday in different ways. For our first birthday of his together, he proposed!
His parents had visited the weekend before, to meet the girl their son had fallen in love with. It was a great visit, which included his dad embarrassing me in front of about 20 of our closest friends with a stupid riddle that I just did NOT get! I guess it is part of the Bushman initiation process. I guess I passed! Well, at some point over the weekend I was teasing Ryan for not getting me my ring yet. We had the temple scheduled, other reservations made, and I still was ring-less. His dad said, "Oh, you only have to wait till Monday!" I thought, surely he wouldn't ruin the surprise of when his baby boy would propose! Monday was Ryan's birthday. I didn't think too much about it, even though I was hoping I only had to wait till Monday!
Monday came around, and I insisted on making dinner for Ryan. We decided to have a quiet evening at his aunt's house, while they were out of town, without roommates interrupting. He decided on Chinese food. We bought the ingredients, including fortune cookies, and headed over. I made a chicken broccoli stir-fry, eggrolls and ham fried rice. While I was preparing the meal, Ryan put the fortune cookies in a bowl. He picked one up and opened it. I joined in, unknowing I was foiling his plan! When I opened it, it read "June 21st, what do you say?" That was the day we scheduled for our wedding. I immediately became nervous, knowing what was coming. I looked up at him flabbergasted, and he said, "I have to go to the bathroom."
WHAT?!?!? You have to go to the bathroom? Right now? While he was gone, I paced the kitchen floor. Is he teasing me like his dad? This is beyond funny! When he came back, he suggested me opening up another one. This fortune read, "Will you marry me?" He then got down on his knee, pulled a ring box out of his pocket (which I found out later, the ring was hidden in the bathroom, waiting there till after dinner!) and asked me if I would marry him. Of course, I cried. Of course, I said yes. Of course, we shared a passionate kiss. That was our first birthday celebration for Ryan.
7 years later, we have had different types of birthdays. As students, as new parents, as employed, as unemployed. But no matter the circumstance, we have been extremely happy since that first birthday together. So Ryan, Happy Birthday! I love you.

Scattered

Who knows why I am sitting down at my computer, with only 40 minutes left (and counting) till my first piano lesson arrives, and my house is a disaster! Cannon is down for a nap, Brenna occupied with the latest dress-up and coloring book, the new puppy asleep in the middle of our floor, and I am blogging? I don't have exciting news to report or a funny story to share. Just thinking out loud...wait, putting my thoughts into the internet void. It doesn't make sense. Yet, I will continue!

I am a happy busy person. I have always kept my plate full, and enjoy most everything I am involved in. However, my kryptonite is being a perfectionist. I like having things just right, or the way I see "right". And in being pulled in so many directions, I never feel like anything is ever done "just right". In most cases, instead of being done perfectly, they are just done. Sometimes, only half done. One Sunday while making the 30 minute drive to Church, I realized I put deoderant on under one armpit! I tried throughout the meetings, to keep most people on the fresher side!

I am learning to let go, and it is a slow process. I assume that in a few months, having three kids, two in diapers, will force me to accept mediocrity in some things. To just let go. But for now...I have now 30 minutes to clean up the living room that has now become the toy room, put the rest of my groceries away, sweep up the kitchen floor which was dusted with smashed Cheez-itz, brush my hair, get dinner started, give the dog her potty break, do I need to continue? Good luck moms, I know we all need it!
